Griffin Theatre Company, the writing theatre in Sydney, Australia, that introduced Cate Blanchett to the world, turned 30 in 2009.  To generate interest in their brand and spark donations in this economic climate, it looked to Interbrand’s Sydney office to help it rebrand.

The New York Times reports that retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue are adopting a new strategy this holiday season. In comparison to last year’s overload of merchandise and deep discounts, Saks has cut its luxury inventory by double digits. It is deliberately running low on merchandise and as a result, customers’ are forced to either buy now or live without it.

While the strategy comes with short-term risks, the move—an effort to return to luxury’s exclusive roots—is a smart one. More...
