Mark joins Interbrand as Global Chief Operating and Financial Officer, bringing substantial experience and enthusiasm gained over two decades with the DDB family. He began his career as an auditor and CPA with Arthur Andersen in Dallas, Texas. In 1994, he was recruited by DDB, one of his client’s at Arthur Andersen, to be the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the newly formed Focus Agency; an innovative Omnicom joint venture formed by DDB, Tracy Locke, and Rapp Collins. While at Focus, Mark was also instrumental in establishing the DDB Interactive business unit in Dallas as one of Omnicom’s first digital agencies.
In 1996, Mark moved back to his home state of New York to join Griffin Bacal, a subsidiary of DDB, as its CFO, where he worked to streamline agency operations. In 1998, he joined DDB's corporate staff as the Director of Worldwide Finance, where he oversaw DDB’s global forecasting and financial reporting to Omnicom and worked on acquisitions and fee negotiations with major clients. Mark worked closely with Interbrand during this period, as business plan advisor and general operational counsel.
In 2001, Mark became the CFO of DDB North America and Asia Pacific. During his tenure, he developed and implemented the business plan for establishing Tribal DDB, the interactive unit of DDB Worldwide, and recruited its initial leadership team. He also increased the cohesion and financial consistency of DDB’s Asia Pacific region. In 2010, he became the President and CEO of DDB North America, overseeing DDB’s 17 business units in the United States and Canada. In 2016, Mark moved to Omnicom Group as Executive Vice President of Finance and Operations, leveraging his unique operational experience from DDB to help Omnicom manage its substantial portfolio.
Biggest professional achievement?
As a financial professional with an accounting background, rising to a high level of management in a creatively focused business (both DDB and Interbrand) is the achievement I am most proud of.
Best piece of leadership advice you ever received?
Focus on changing what is in your power to change and don’t waste your time obsessing on the things that you likely can’t change.
Something unusual about yourself that most people at work don’t know?
I was a world ranked foosball player in college.
